for a costume contest, circus demos from the team at Madison Circus Space, networking and refreshments. This event is free and open to all. Children are welcome.
Business After 5 is the Monona East Side Business Alliance’s recurring networking series featuring great conversations, refreshments and door prizes with 75-150 attendees regularly.
Madison Circus Space is currently building their new space on Winnebago Street. This BA5 will be held at their temporary space at 84 N. Bryan Street in Madison just off Milwaukee Street near Fair Oaks Avenue.

Come one, come all to a fundraiser like nothing you’ve seen before! Madison Circus Space members cordially invite you to attend our first Halloween event and our first event at our temporary space located at 84 N Bryan St, Madison, WI 53714. The event is for all ages and proceeds will go toward our capital campaign as we continue to raise money for our permanent circus home, set to open next spring.
Join us for carnival games, Halloween- and circus-themed crafts,and ambient performances. Instructors will be available throughout the night to help you try something new at our ‘try-it’ stations. Come dressed in your best costume.
Family-oriented portion of the night will be from 6-8pm and the event will continue until 10pm.
Drinks and snacks available for purchase throughout the night.
Admission is a suggested donation of $5/person or $15/family (at the door, no presale tickets). Bring cash for games, activities, snacks, and drinks.

World’s Only Circus, Mixed-income Housing, Artist Studios Groundbreaking, July 18
Join in celebrating the groundbreaking of the world’s only development of a circus training center, mixed-income housing, and artist cooperative site on July 18, 11am-12pm at 2100 Winnebago St. The Madison Circus Space, CohoMadison, and Accipiter Properties will be joined by Mayor Soglin and key supporters to break ground. Emceed by Josh Casey, this event will also feature talent by circus artists.
Demolition of the site, including former tenants Winnebago Studios, Madison Circus Space, and Sector67, began on June 18th. The Madison Circus Space launched a $1 million capital campaign to build a permanent home for circus and movement arts in early 2017. To date, the organization has raised $605,000. Artists from Winnebago Studios plan to form an artists’ cooperative to ensure affordability of studios.
Madison Circus Space
Madison Circus Space (MCS) is home to the largest community of practicing circus artists in Wisconsin. For the past five years, MCS, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has hosted classes, clubs, and performances that are affordable and open to the public. MCS provides the building and equipment necessary for safely learning circus arts and give participants a positive environment to support one another and to grow stronger physically, emotionally, and professionally.

CohoMadison
CohoMadison is a new cohousing community on Madison’s near east side at 2048 Winnebago Street. This 45-unit building will have market-rate and below-market-rate units, nine studios for working artists, and common areas, and will be legally structured as a condominium project. Interest in the project has been strong, with 36 of the 45 residential units reserved prior to breaking ground. This project reflects many years of work by people committed to creating a cohousing community on the near east side and who share a deep commitment to mixed-income housing as well as a desire to preserve spaces for artists displaced by development.

Winnebago Artists Cooperative
Accipiter Properties is committed to providing permanently affordable space for working artists in the Schenk-Atwood neighborhood. Therefore, as part of the redevelopment, Accipiter included nine artist studio spaces as part of the CohoMadison project. Accipiter plans to collaborate with artists from Winnebago Studios to establish an artists’ cooperative to lease — and eventually purchase — the artist studio spaces. Additionally, Accipiter plans to fundraise to make lease fees affordable for low- to moderate- income artists, with hopes that the model can be applied to other projects and help provide a growing supply of affordable and secure working spaces.
Lauren Breunig fell in love with circus while working as a counselor at Circus Smirkus summer camp. That love drew her to study with social circus organization El Circo del Mundo in Santiago, Chile during a semester abroad in college. She was so inspired by the transformation and empowerment she witnessed in the students there that she decided to pursue circus herself. After college, she landed in her hometown of Brattleboro, VT and began taking classes at the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA), first as a recreational student and then as part of NECCA’s Professional Training Program. At NECCA, she was trained by world-class coaches from Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Eloize, Ringling Brothers, and Pilobolus. She is the pioneer of an original apparatus, the Sliding Trapeze, and has been featured on as an innovative aerialist in festivals across the United States including the Aerial Acrobatics Arts Festival of Denver, the US Aerial Championships, and VivaFest. Now working as a freelance artist, she has performed with companies including the Christopher Reeve Foundation, the Boston Circus Guild, and Nimble Arts, delighting audiences large and small with performances on the Sliding Trapeze as well as aerial sling, static trapeze, solo and duo fabric, and partner acrobatics. A versatile and engaging instructor, she teaches circus arts to students of all ages at studios, schools, camps, and festivals around the US and abroad, and she also leads Nimble Arts Teacher Training courses.
A veteran of the stage as a singer, Lauren has toured and recorded in the US and internationally with a variety of folk music groups including Northern Harmony, the Renewal Chorus, and her band, Windborne. In 2014, Windborne toured with the prestigious American Music Abroad program, sponsored by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Cultural and Educational Affairs. Acting as cultural diplomats, they traveled to Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Angola, giving workshops, presentations, and concerts.
